Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation is active in responding to broken Pipes

Non-Revenue Water (NRW) can occur through physical losses from leaking and broken pipes, which are caused by poor operations and maintenance, the lack of active leakage control, and poor quality of underground assets.  NRW can also come from commercial losses caused by the under-registration of customer meters, data handling errors, illegal connections and theft.

Based on this, Community & Youth Development initiatives (CYDI) noticed a broken pipe at 54 Ekwema Crescent, Ikenegbu Owerri and quickly alerted Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation and within 24 hours their Rapid Response Team showed up at the location. This was made possible through the help of the MD/CEO Engr Emeka Ugonayanwu and his Team who are working tirelessly to ensure that there is a clean and affordable water supply for Imo Residents and reduction in non-revenue water to save cost for the state and maintain the quality of water distributed to Imo residents.

Non-revenue water is water that has been produced and is “lost” before it reaches the customer. Losses can be real losses or apparent losses. High levels of non-revenue water are detrimental to the financial viability of water utilities, as well as to the quality of the water itself.  These losses can be real, physical losses (caused by leaks, breaks, spills, etc.) or only apparent losses that occur as a result of broken or tampered meters, poor meter readings, inaccurate record-keeping, or outright water theft.
