Background

Community & Youth Development Initiatives (CYDI), a non-governmental organization, was founded on July 1, 2001, with the mission to empower communities through self-development. Responding to the 1999 National HIV/Syphilis Sero-prevalence Sentinel Survey, which revealed concerning levels of HIV among young people, CYDI began its journey by providing essential reproductive health and developmental services to young individuals aged 10-24 in Imo State, Nigeria.

Since its inception, CYDI has implemented 55 projects across eight key sectors, including agriculture, economic empowerment, education, gender-based violence, governance, infrastructure, peacebuilding, and health. Our work has touched the lives of countless young people and community members across the 27 Local Government Areas of Imo State, helping them take charge of their health and development.

In line with the National Policy on the Health and Development of Adolescents and Young People in Nigeria, CYDI restructured its programs in July 2015. Our current focus is on five major areas of need: Sexual and Reproductive Health, Substance Abuse, Nutrition, Career/Employment, and Social Adjustment/Parental Responsibility.

CYDI is now taking a significant step forward by establishing an online learning platform to address the gap in virtual education for teachers and young people. This platform, in collaboration with the Imo State Ministry of Education and the Imo State Ministry of Information, will serve as a comprehensive resource hub for Family Life & HIV Education (FLHE). It will be an invaluable tool for students and teachers alike, offering access to e-courses, supplementary materials, and educational resources.

Consultancy Opportunity

CYDI is seeking a skilled Web Design and Development Consultant to lead the creation of this innovative platform. The primary objective is to design and develop a user-friendly, interactive, and dynamic online learning platform that meets the educational needs of young people and educators in Imo State.

Key Responsibilities:

• Platform Development: Design and develop an operational online learning platform with two distinct sections for teachers and students.
• Multimedia Integration: Incorporate multimedia content such as videos, animations, and quizzes to enhance user engagement.
• Feedback Mechanism: Create and integrate a system to collect and analyze user feedback for continuous improvement.
• Certification System: Develop and implement a certification process to issue certificates upon course completion.
• Testing and Launch: Conduct thorough testing of the platform to ensure functionality and compatibility across devices and browsers. Provide support during the initial launch phase and develop a maintenance plan for ongoing updates.
• Compliance: Ensure that the platform adheres to relevant data protection and accessibility standards.
• Training and Documentation: Provide training to administrators and create comprehensive user manuals for both administrators and end-users.

Competencies and Qualifications:

• Technical Expertise: Proficiency in web development languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and experience with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress.
• Design Skills: Strong skills in UI/UX design, focusing on creating engaging and intuitive experiences.
• Project Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in web design and development, with a proven track record in developing online learning platforms.
• Education: A first-level University Degree, Polytechnic, or relevant certification in Computer Science, Web Development, Graphic Design, or a related field.
